| Summer Reading List Help! |
[08 May 2007|08:05pm] |
I have come to realize in little less than a month since I've been done school that I have an AMPLE amount of time. I used to read a lot when I was younger, and I miss the passion!
For you avid readers out there, what are some good books to check out this summer?
One thing though; I'm pretty picky. Here are some book types I DONT want to read: 1) Any book that is a romance novel 2) Any book that has a female lead character who ends up with some guy at the end 3) Any novel which turns into a series. Unless the series is less than 4 books, then that's cool.
Here's an idea of what sort of books I do like though: - Fantasy novels (that don't expand into huge series!!!) - death/funerals hahaha - how to do things (I can't get enough of The Debt-Free Graduate) - people's lives, journeys, experiences - documentary like books (like exposing a business, etc) - humorous fiction books - suspense/thriller/horror - collection of short stories - ghost stories/paranormal stories
I have an ample supply of history novels, so I don't want anything like that. I'm just trying to steer away from romance novels and 'young adult' fiction novels. I don't mind reading something geared towards children and younger persons either. Your input would be greatly appreciated!
On that note, here are some novels I am going to read this summer, that I either already have, or am planning on getting (hopefully): - Eragon (Have) - Elder (Have) - American Way of Death (On its way) - The Chronicles of Prydain (Waaaaant) - Cemetery Stories: Creepy Graveyards, Embalming Secrets and the Life of a Corpse After Death (Want) - Possibly Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows
Feel free to help me add onto my list!

| Dreams! |
[13 Nov 2006|12:17pm] |
I am about to go off to Trent and do some actual 'school work' whatever that is.
In the meantime, here are a few dreams I dreamt last night!
1) I was at Disneyworld or some other amusement park, and they had some salon there. Someone working at the salon grabbed me and dragged me to the head of the line so I could get my hair cut. I didn't want to get my hair cut, and the hair dresser, told me he was going to cut my hair anyways. He did a horrible job, and I told him. He gave my layers, but they were all wrong. I stormed off, and then my -mom- got her hair cut by the same guy. And he gave her the same hair cut as me.
2) At the same amusement park, we met up with this guy who looked like the Skipper from Gilligan's Island. We were going to go fishing, but only four of us: My dad, who for some reason was in my dream, himself, myself and my brother. To get to this so called elusive fishing spot, we had to swim there. We swam through this creek that actually looked like an amazonian river, but there were goldfish and weeping willows a plenty. I was afraid of getting attacked by leeches. Then all of a sudden, an angry panda (wtf) started stalking the shore. It jumped into the water and started coming after us. My dad told us to 'swim for it', and we swam harder until we got to the bank of the shore. We all mad a run for it with the panda following us. My dad took off one way and the panda followed him. I remember stepping on thorns and other prickly things in my barefoot. I looked behind me, and apparently my dad had ran in a circle, but now a park ranger (!?!) was following behind the panda, trying to load his gun. Finally the ranger shot the panda, either with a tranq or with an actual bullet.
Yeah, it was messed up.
Edit: Dream #3 because I just remembered it
I parked my car somewhere on Trent campus, I think it was the library (Probably because I was thinking about going to the library today), and when I went to leave, I had a bunch of stuff sitting on my windsheild. One was a letter telling me that my windshield was too dirty to be considered safe, so I had to get it cleaned professionally. The second was a letter from Bonnie Patterson herself, saying that I was not allowed to park at the library, because it was now a blue parking spot, and not a red one. Therefore, I was disobeying the parking rules of priority (yes thats what the letter said) and if I did it again, my car would be towed.
No more pancakes before bed.

[10 Nov 2006|08:59pm] |
Around 4:30, my brother and I loaded up the horses and took them to downtown Toronto. There was, as usual, terrible traffic, but we got everything in the Horse Palace and unloaded by 7:30 pm. Our stalls were located upstairs, which is great for two reasons; it's warmer up there, and during the day there are less civilians walking around and getting annoying. I went to the Collisium watchd the Green Meadows Four in Hand Coaching class, then came back to the stalls where we all drank until 11 p.m., or at least I did because I was bored as hell and knew we had to get up at the rediculous time of 6 am.
The problem with the Horse Palace is that you never know what time it is, unless you have a watch, for the lights are on constantly. 11 p.m looks exactly as 6 a.m. Anyways, the horse in the stall behind us decided to kick the wall every hour, and the found a way of amusing himself by shaking a metal tie up ring located in the stall. My brother pounded on the wall, and finally my mom just got up and fed the horse so we could actually sleep. Oh, did I mention that people were partying to 3 in the morning? Blah.
So with little sleep, and in a horrible sleeping condition (three people on one single mattress), we all grudgingly got up in the morning. My brother was hung over, but that's his own fault.
I showed the foal and she got last in her class. The judge told me that she was a 'fine animal' but just needed more time to develop. Everyone I've talked to said I got ripped off, for she was the nicest looking foal in the class. However, you can't argue with the judging results.
My brother took in our yearling Emma, and placed first out of six or seven. He then took her in the JR Champion class, and she won that as well.
Our three year old mare placed second out of three, so Matt and I had to take Emma and Cindy, the older mare, into the Champion Mare class. Emma placed Reserve Champion here.
We had about a twenty-thirty minute break while the cobs were shown, but the classes went relatively quick.
The yearling and the foal went into the Canadian Bred Bonanzi class, which had thirteen entries. Emma placed fourth right after the cobs* placed (The judge was a Cob Judge) and the foal didn't get dead last, so that was a bonus.
Emma and Cindy went into the Welsh Champion of Champions of class, for they qualified this year, but a cob won, which is the case every year. Cobs have been winning every year for the last few years, but it's usually a cob or Section A pony that wins Champion of Champions.
My mom sponsered the Get of Sire, Progency of Dam classes. There were three entries in each, so that wasn't a total bust. Of course, the judge didn't like any of our stuff besides Emma, so their sire and dam didn't get honoured there.
The two girls mom had do the Jr Showmanship classes placed last, because as usual, no one listens to me. I've been doing showmanship classes since I was nine, and my mom still makes me do showmanship. I've won at the Royal three times in my past, have one the overall year end trophy for it several times, and also have won it at the Erin Fair Howard Black Memorial class. However, no one takes me seriously.
My step dad and I took off around 2:30, because I was dead tired and not wanting to stay over in that cramped little stall for another night. I took the night off work, so I had a three hour nap. Yay.
*Cob is a welsh type, they look like mini drafts.

| Goodbye Technology |
[09 Nov 2006|01:19pm] |
So until possibly friday night, I will have no internet, television or video games. Sigh. How will I survive?
In three hours I will be at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds for the 84th Royal Agricultre Winter Fair. We're taking three ponies down and showing friday morning. Blah. We're stay at the Royal, in a stall. We'll have a space heater and a mattress, but it's still going to be lousy, especially since three of us are staying there.
It definetly brings back memories of having to stay over night at the grounds. I just haven't done it since I was ...14.
